Satisfaction! Mick Jagger Wants to Bring Oscar-Nominated Doc 20 Feet From Stardom to Broadway

first_img View Comments After a buzzed-about debut at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, 20 Feet From Stardom was released in theaters last June, and eventually grossed almost $5 million—making it the top-grossing documentary of the year. It’s too early to say if the talented singers will be performing at the 86th Academy Awards telecast on March 2, but we’d love to see Love and her fellow too-often unsung heroes get a shot at singing one of the Oscar-nominated songs. It looks like you can always get what you want! Legendary Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and his producing partner Victoria Pearman are in talks to turn the Oscar-nominated documentary 20 Feet From Stardom into a Broadway musical. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jagger and Pearman would also like to produce a TV series adaptation of the film and bring some of the backup singers featured in the doc to the Broadway version, including Hairspray alum Darlene Love. Watch the official trailer for 20 Feet From Stardom below! Directed by Morgan Neville, 20 Feet From Stardom chronicles the lives and careers—the hopes, dreams and often dashed expectations—of some of pop’s greatest background singers, including Love (background for Elvis Presley, Dionne Warwick), Merry Clayton (Jagger, Ray Charles), Lisa Fischer (Luther Vandross, Tina Turner), Claudia Lennear (Joe Cocker) and The Voice alum Judith Hill (Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder). The film digs deep into the roles the singers played on rock classics like “Gimme Shelter” and “Sweet Home Alabama” and their efforts to break out on their own.last_img
